Why Gudauri?
Gudauri sits at over 2,000 meters in the Greater Caucasus, 120 kilometers north of Tbilisi along the legendary Georgian Military Highway. A scenic two-hour drive through mountain passes brings you to one of the highest tandem paragliding launch sites in the entire Caucasus region — at 3,000 meters altitude. This elevation delivers longer flights, stronger thermal currents, and a panorama that stretches from snow-capped peaks to deep river valleys and alpine meadows.
Unlike lower-altitude sites, Gudauri offers genuine high-mountain flying. You launch from above the ski resort, soar over the historic Jvari (Cross) Pass, and look down at the Aragvi River valley winding far below. On clear days, the white cone of Mount Kazbegi — Georgia's third-highest peak at 5,054 meters — appears on the northern horizon.
What You'll See
The Greater Caucasus range fills the panorama in every direction. Below you — the winding switchbacks of the Georgian Military Highway, one of the world's most scenic mountain roads. In summer, alpine meadows are dotted with wildflowers and the valley floor is lush green. In winter, a thick blanket of snow covers everything — the ski resort's lifts and runs spread across the mountainside beneath your feet.
To the east, the dramatic cliffs of the Jvari Pass drop away steeply. To the north, peaks rise above 4,000 meters. The Aragvi River gorge carves through the landscape far below. This is raw, high-altitude mountain scenery — no buildings, no cities, just rock, snow, sky, and you.
Best Time to Fly
Gudauri operates year-round — a rarity for paragliding sites at this altitude.
- Summer (June–September) — Strong thermal currents allow flights up to 25 minutes. Green alpine meadows, warm air, clear skies. The most popular season.
- Winter (December–March) — Crisp mountain air and panoramic views over the snow-covered ski resort. Shorter flights, but a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.
- Spring and Autumn — Mild conditions, fewer crowds, and beautiful seasonal color changes across the landscape. Excellent for photography.
